A place where you can learn to get amazing deals in buying Video Games!
Welcome to my very first introductory post for this new Magbo Games Substack of mines! And whether you are a casual game collector or a veteran, you may find some interesting things about Video Game Collecting!
First of all, this Substack will be based upon my YouTube channel called Magbo Gaming
So if you are familiar with my YouTube channel, you would know that I dedicate it towards showing off Video Games I have in my collection from Super Nintendo, Game Boy to Nintendo Switch and PS4.
And I also have dedicated the channel to game hunting in different Video Game Mom & Pop stores so that I can promote their stores on my channels voluntarily and 9 times out of 10, they are more than happy in letting me record their whole store so people in my audience can have a sneak peek inside look of what each of the gaming stores are about. Here are a couple of examples, click them if you want to see the videos themslves on my channel:
After watching those videos, you will have an idea on what I do! So lets get on to the main purpose of me starting Substack here:
I want to help you to Build your own Great Video Game Collection of your dreams without breaking the bank!
So I want to identify the problems and solutions when it comes to video game collecting, I will just list a few so you get a general idea on what to expect:
PROBLEMS WITH VIDEO GAME COLLECTING:
Ever since the 2020 Pandemic, many retro Video Games from been skyrocketing in price. The most affected were many of the GameCube Games that never had a rerelease or port of their games towards modern consoles making it in high demand for people in newer generations wanting to experience this game and also people who grew up with these games as kids and now are adults wanting to rebuy their childhood games. The graph below shows an example of the rising cost of Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness for the GameCube:
The rise of Pokémon Game prices - These games were once in abundance and used to be very cheap but when it comes to the Authentic Mainline Pokémon games from the Game Boy Titles to the Nintendo DS, they have skyrocketed in price, many of them being over $100-200+ a game now! Due to the high demand regardless of how big the supply is, may say more in a later post if necessary.
The rise of JRPG Prices - Yup! If you have noticed, a lot of greatest underrated title like Xenogears for PS1 and Solatorobo has also skyrocketed in price as well due to not getting a remake on modern consoles, being underrated and developed by companies that no longer are in business.
And the last I will list here is that its becoming harder to find really good games at a good deal in many different places that sells video games like Retail Stores, Video Game Dedicated Stores, Pawn Shops and Flea Markets. Of course there are always gonna be deals out there if you look hard enough but its becoming a real challenge to find the games you truly want without breaking the banks, some stores would not be open for negotiations to lower the price for you unless you have connections.
SOLUTIONS TO THIS VIDEO GAME COLLECTING ISSUE
So this Substack will be all about giving different tips and strategies on how you can build your Video Game collection by spending as little money as possible. Even if the last 4-5 years saw the rise of a lot of retro video games and even some modern ones going up, there are still deals that can be made which I will be covering on the next blog posts.
The first 2 lessons will be FREE of charge so you can have some general ideas on what I do to get good deals on video games.
The others will be really juicy and can help you save hundreds of dollars potentially on future video games you plan to purchase!
So the main solution I will leave with this blog post is KNOW WHAT YOU WANT and KNOW YOUR BUDGET! I will be teaching more on that for the next blog post! :) But the main thing to know is set goals on each specific games you wish to have and find ways where you can find good deals on it… you never want to pay full retail price for any games unless you are really, really sure you are gonna enjoy the game and can afford it.
But with the economy being as it is, I imagine you want to get a discount with every games you buy so I will be teaching the secrets on what I know about getting video games at amazing deals in a tight budget! Hope this blog post gives you a general idea on my goals for you all here:
